Why title case is trickier than it looks

A naive title case converter simply capitalizes every word's first letter, but proper title case (as used in headlines and book titles) traditionally leaves certain short words lowercase - articles like "a" and "the," short prepositions like "of" and "in," and coordinating conjunctions like "and" or "but" - unless they're the first or last word. This tool uses the simpler, fully-capitalized convention (capitalizing every word) since style guides genuinely disagree on which small words to lowercase, and the fully-capitalized version is unambiguous and widely used in software fields, headers, and casual formatting.

Common mistakes

Assuming sentence case only capitalizes the very first letter - it also capitalizes the first letter after each sentence-ending punctuation mark (. ! ?), matching how normal sentences are actually written.
Confusing "alternating case" with "inverse case" - alternating case ignores the original letters and applies a strict pattern by position, while inverse case flips each specific letter from whatever it originally was.
