Three checks before calculating
Check the syllabus
Choose Grade Calculator for total-points grading; use Weighted Grade Calculator if assignments and exams have separate category weights.
Match your GPA scale
Confirm your school’s credit hours, plus/minus policy and weighting for advanced courses before comparing a GPA with a target.
Plan an achievable target
Use Final Exam Grade Calculator early. If the required score exceeds the available marks, review other course opportunities with your instructor.
Why a simple average may give the wrong course grade
A course grade based on category weights is a sum of category score × category weight. If homework is worth 20% and the final exam is worth 40%, a 95% homework average contributes 19 percentage points while a 70% exam result contributes 28 points. Add the contributions from the remaining categories to get the course total. The Weighted Grade Calculator handles those category weights; the Grade Calculator is for a total-points system.
Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about GPA, weighted grades and study planning.
How is GPA calculated?
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add the products, then divide by total credits. Check your institution’s grade-point scale first.
Do plus and minus grades affect GPA?
They can. Many schools use separate grade points for A−, B+ and other grades, while others do not. Match the tool settings to your school’s policy.
What if a final exam target requires over 100%?
Under the entered current grade, exam weight and target, that result is not reachable through the final alone. Check your inputs and syllabus, then discuss any remaining options with your instructor.
Which grade calculator should I use?
Use Grade Calculator when a course totals earned points across assignments. Use Weighted Grade Calculator when categories such as homework and exams contribute fixed percentages.
How many pages is 1,000 words?
The result depends on font, size, margins and line spacing. Enter your document settings in Word Count to Pages Calculator for an estimate.
Is my study data stored?
