Combine your prior cumulative GPA and credit hours with a new semester's GPA to find your updated overall cumulative GPA - without re-entering your entire academic history.

LiveThe formula
A 3.4 cumulative GPA over 60 credits, plus a 3.8 GPA semester worth 15 credits: new cumulative = (3.4x60 + 3.8x15) / 75 = 3.480 - a gain of +0.080.
Step-by-step guide
- Enter your prior cumulative GPA and total credits completed before this semester.
- Enter this semester's GPA and credit hours - use our GPA Calculator first if you need to compute this semester's GPA from individual course grades.
- Read your updated cumulative GPA and how much it changed.
Why a strong semester moves your GPA less as credits pile up
Each additional semester has proportionally less influence on your cumulative GPA the more credits you've already completed - 15 new credits added to 15 existing credits can swing the average dramatically, while the same 15 credits added to 90 existing credits barely moves it. This is simple math, but it's genuinely useful to internalize: a rough first semester is much easier to recover from than a rough final semester, since early credits carry proportionally more weight in a shorter academic history, and later strong semesters have less room to pull up an already-large credit base.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between this and the main GPA Calculator?
The GPA Calculator computes a GPA from individual course grades and credits - useful for figuring out this semester's GPA in the first place. This tool then combines that new semester GPA with your existing cumulative GPA, without needing to re-enter every course from your entire academic history.
How much does one semester typically move a cumulative GPA?
It depends entirely on how many credits you already have versus how many you're adding - a semester's impact shrinks proportionally as your total credit history grows, which this calculator shows directly through the "change" figure.
Can I use this to plan how many more good semesters I need to reach a target GPA?
This tool shows a single update. For working backward from a target GPA to find the average grade you need going forward, see our Target GPA Calculator instead.
