Pace Calculator

Enter a distance and time you've run to find your pace, then see what that same pace would produce over common race distances — useful for pacing strategy or picking a goal time.

The formula

Pace = Total time ÷ Distance
Example

5 miles in 45:00: pace = 45 ÷ 5 = 9:00 per mile. At that same pace, a 10K (6.21 miles) would take about 55:55, and a marathon about 3:55:xx.

Step-by-step guide

  1. Enter the distance you ran and choose miles or kilometers.
  2. Enter the time it took, in hours, minutes, and seconds.
  3. Read your pace, then check the projected times for common race distances at that same pace.

Common mistakes

Assuming pace stays perfectly constant over a much longer race — fatigue, terrain, and pacing strategy usually make a projected marathon time from a short run optimistic.
Mixing miles and kilometers between the input and comparison — double check the unit toggle matches your original run.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the race time projections?

They're a simple straight-line projection assuming your pace holds exactly. Longer races usually see some pace drop-off due to fatigue, so treat these as optimistic upper-end estimates, not guarantees.

What's a "good" pace?

It depends entirely on your experience, goals, and the distance — there's no universal "good" number. Many runners track their own pace over time rather than comparing to others.

Can I use this for cycling or swimming pace?

The pace math works the same for any distance-and-time activity, though the race-distance comparison table is specifically set up for running distances.
