Use this Salary to Hourly Calculator to convert annual salary into hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semimonthly and monthly pay using the work schedule you actually follow. You can also reverse the calculation from hourly wage to annual salary. The math is currency-neutral, so the same calculator works worldwide without pretending to convert exchange rates or apply country-specific taxes.

PROPay conversion at a glance
The same compensation can be expressed across different pay periods. This visual updates from the calculator above and uses the schedule and headline compensation basis you selected.
Current conversion: $60,000 annually = $5,000.00 monthly = $1,153.85 weekly = $230.77 per workday = $28.85 per paid hour, using the schedule entered above.
How salary-to-hourly conversion works
The key choice is not the currency; it is the work schedule. A fixed annual salary divided by 2,080 hours assumes 40 paid hours per week for 52 weeks. Someone working 37.5 hours per week, working fewer paid weeks, or receiving a fixed annual bonus can have a very different hourly equivalent even when the annual salary is the same. If your hours vary week to week, the Time Card Calculator can help total actual hours before you compare pay.
Step-by-step guide
Start with annual salary when you want an hourly equivalent, or switch to hourly-to-salary mode when comparing an hourly offer with a salaried role.
Enter hours per week and paid weeks per year. Keep paid vacation inside the paid-week count; reduce the number only for unpaid weeks.
A known annual bonus can be included when you want an all-in cash equivalent. Keep uncertain bonuses separate when comparing guaranteed pay.
Use hourly, weekly, monthly or annual equivalents consistently when comparing jobs, then use the Freelance Rate Calculator if you need to translate employment pay into a sustainable independent-work rate.
Why 2,080 hours is only a shortcut
2,080 hours comes from 40 hours per week multiplied by 52 weeks. It is convenient, but it is not a universal work schedule. A 37.5-hour week produces 1,950 paid hours across 52 weeks, while a 35-hour week produces 1,820. The calculator uses your inputs rather than forcing every visitor into one schedule.
Paid vacation and unpaid time off
If your annual salary continues during paid vacation, those weeks are still part of annual paid compensation, so keeping 52 paid weeks is generally the cleanest salary-equivalent comparison. If you expect unpaid leave or seasonal gaps, reduce the paid-week count. For planning paid time away from work, compare the schedule with the PTO Calculator. The same annual salary spread across fewer paid hours produces a higher hourly equivalent, which is mathematically correct but does not mean your annual cash pay increased.
Base salary vs total cash compensation
Base salary is the guaranteed annual salary entered in the calculator. The optional annual bonus field lets you create an all-in cash equivalent without pretending that bonuses are guaranteed. Benefits such as health insurance, retirement matching, equity, allowances, paid leave and employer taxes are deliberately excluded because their value differs by employer and country. For a broader offer comparison, use the Job Offer Comparison Calculator; employers can use the Employee Cost Calculator for the company-side view.
Using the calculator worldwide
The core conversion is mathematical, so it works with USD, EUR, GBP, CAD, AUD, SAR, AED, INR, JPY, CHF and other currencies when you interpret the amount consistently. The currency selector changes formatting only; it does not fetch exchange rates. Taxes, overtime rules, pension contributions, social insurance, holiday entitlements and minimum-wage laws remain country-specific and are intentionally outside this calculator. Use the Payroll Calculator for broader payroll planning and the Overtime Calculator when extra-hours pay needs separate modeling.
Cases this calculator does not fully model
Time-and-a-half, double-time, night premiums and local overtime rules can make actual hourly earnings differ from a straight salary conversion.
Insurance, pension matching, equity, allowances, paid leave value and employer taxes are not assigned a cash value here.
Use the bonus field only for an amount you intentionally want included. Highly variable incentive pay is better compared as a separate scenario. For percentage-based earnings, the Commission Calculator is a better fit.
This page converts gross pay periods. It does not determine take-home pay, minimum-wage compliance, overtime eligibility or payroll tax in any jurisdiction.
Common mistakes
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert salary to hourly pay?
Divide annual compensation by paid annual hours. Paid annual hours equal hours per week multiplied by paid weeks per year.
Is salary divided by 2,080 always correct?
No. 2,080 assumes 40 paid hours per week for 52 weeks. Use your actual schedule when it differs.
Should paid vacation reduce paid weeks?
If your salary continues during paid vacation, keep those weeks in the paid-week count. Reduce the count for unpaid weeks.
Does this calculate take-home pay?
No. It converts gross compensation across pay periods. Taxes and deductions depend on jurisdiction and personal circumstances.
Can I use it outside the United States?
Yes for the mathematical salary/hourly conversion. The currency display is global, but local tax, labor-law and benefit rules are not calculated.
